Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)– The VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment, formerly known as the Virginia Institute of Autism, is expanding its facilities in response to the growing need for specialized services. Ethan Long, President and CEO, shared the exciting news during an interview on Morning News, revealing plans to nearly double their capacity with a new school on Hillsdale Drive, set to open in the fall of 2026.

“We’ve been needing to grow so that we can help address, we have a lot of students and children on our wait list,” said Long. The new 24,000-square-foot facility will serve up to 100 students, providing a purpose-built environment for neurodivergent individuals. The VIA Centers offer a range of services, including specialized education, employment assistance, and behavioral consultation for individuals with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

With demand increasing, one in 36 children now diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, Long emphasized the urgent need for community support. “We have a waitlist right now of students that literally can’t go to their public school. They’re basically at home waiting to come in, and so we’re so hopeful that we’re going to be able to help those families in need,” he said. The organization is actively seeking donations and hiring staff to support its expanded programs. More information can be found at www.viacenters.org.
