RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – With General Assembly committee meetings and a new Congress around the corner, the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association has released a Mason-Dixon poll about what Virginians say are pressing needs in their healthcare. The association’s Julian Walker notes 71-percent express concern over healthcare workforce shortages, particularly as aging baby boomers created more demand for all types of healthcare services.
76-percent want more guardrails against insurance companies requiring prior authorizations for procedures and treatments. 61-percent want the current “Certificate of Public Need” regulations to stay in place to assure more equitable health facility distribution, instead of a free-for-all where facilities could only choose to locate in areas with the “more financially well-to-do”.
