Colonel Verlin Dean Dickman, USAF, Retired, passed away on July 8, 2024 from complications related to Parkinson’s disease.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Dickman; Children: Barbara Mastro (Michael), Mark Dickman, Cynthia Tomblin, Carole Szyperski (Bill), Matthew Haught (Megan), Josephine Wilding (Adam), and Peter Haught (Venus); Grand Children: Steven and Olivia Mastro, Kelly Trout (Hugh); Marie, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Alex Tomblin; Jakob, Ethan, and Blake Hatcher; Emma, Olivia, and Miller Haught; Martha and Hayden Wilding; and Brooklyn Haught; Great Grand Children: Isla and Hugh Trout; and was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Roy W. Dickman and Stella B. Pettigrew Dickman, and his wife, Sigrid H. Otte Dickman.

Verlin was born in Maryville, Missouri on September 23, 1935. He obtained both his undergraduate degree in Economics and Law Degree at the University of Iowa; and his Master’s in Business Administration at Florida State University.

He served for 30 years in the Air Force as a Staff Judge Advocate. His Air Force career included three Overseas assignments at Wiesbaden AFB, Wiesbaden, Germany; Torrejon AFB, Madrid, Spain and RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk, England. His CONUS assignments were at Hill AFB, Salt Lake City, Utah; Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton Ohio; United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, NV; Washington D.C. and his final assignment as General Counsel for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas, TX. In addition to a rewarding military career, Verlin’s assignments provided the foundation for many life long friendships that continued throughout his retirement.

He was proud of his children graduating from both of his alma maters. Barbara from the University of Iowa and Mark from Florida State University. He was very active in his church and civic organizations. He was most at home on a golf course. He played some of the best courses around the world. His favorite course was the Silver Course at the United States Air Force Academy.

Barbara and Mark would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mary Jo for the devoted and loving care she provided to their father in his final years as he battled Parkinson’s disease.
