CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A winter weather advisory following the winter storm warning expiration has complicated Wednesday road clearing a bit for VDOT, and they’re urging people to continue staying off the roads as much as possible. She said they were able to start plowing and treating secondary roads in the morning, but they’ve had to hop back onto primary roads to treat icy and slushy spots that continued after the snow stopped because freezing rain persisted. VDOT’s Culpeper District’s Sharon Ketcham said as of morning, the primary roads were in minor condition. She says that means they’re passable but does not mean there aren’t icy or packed snow spots.

Area police, fire, and rescue continue responding to crashes from the weather conditions. She said the more people stay off the roads, the more efficient progress crews can make clearing them. She said vehicles spinning out in the conditions can slow down the clearing work.
