CULPEPER, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is asking residents to avoid travel overnight Monday and early Tuesday morning as temperatures are expected to drop sharply, creating the potential for black ice. While VDOT crews have made significant progress clearing snow from major roadways, moisture on the roads could refreeze.
Interstates and primary highways across are mostly clear, but some patches of snow and ice remain. Many secondary roads and neighborhood streets are still covered in snow and remain hazardous. VDOT crews are working through the night and into Tuesday to address these areas and ensure all roads are passable.
VDOT recommends checking real-time road and traffic conditions through 511 Virginia, the 511 mobile app, or by calling 511.
