CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – James Monroe’s Highland will host the VA250 Mobile Museum that’s touring the Commonwealth with the vehicle arriving on grounds July 31. It will be open that Thursday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. each day.

The theme “E Pluribus Unum: Out of Many, One” is housed in a quad-expandable tractor-trailer “bringing key stories of Virginia’s rich history to schools, museums, local events, fairs, and more highlighting every region of the state”.

“We are pleased to introduce the VA250 Mobile Museum to the Albemarle/Charlottesville area,” said Highland Executive Director, Sara Bon-Harper. “The mobile museum is an ideal companion to Highland’s rich history.”

According to a Highland release, James Monroe’s connection to the nation’s founding began in 1776, when he enlisted in the Continental Army. His service in the American Revolution included crossing the Delaware River during Gen. George Washington’s December 1776 campaign and being wounded at the subsequent Battle of Trenton. Monroe continued to serve, wintering at Valley Forge in 1777-78, and fighting in the northeast the following year. His time fighting for American independence formed his view on the United States, which he carried with him through his long public career.

There is no cost to access the Mobile Museum, and will be positioned in the main Highland parking lot.
