Evanston, IL (cvilleirightnow.com): After a valiant effort at the ITA Indoor Championships, the Cavalier Women’s Tennis team fell in the semifinals to the #1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs. The Hoos were not able to start on the right foot as their strong doubles partnerships of Melodie Collard and Karolina Kozakova and Annabelle Xu and Martina Genis Salas both fell to Georgia opposition to begin the match. Sofia Rojas gave the Bulldogs a bigger lead in singles play. The Nation’s #64 Melodie Collard then fell in straight sets in upset fashion to #90 Guillermina Grant to bring the score to 3-0. The Hoos’ last hope was Genis Salas, whom #75 Aysegul Mert defeated to seal the 4-0 victory for Georgia. Despite the defeat, this appearance marks the first seminfinal birth for the Hoos in the history of the program, and to go along with an 8-2 record this season, 2024-25 has been a good year for UVA Women’s Tennis.
