Charlottesville, VA (virginiasports.com):There were some positives to report yesterday for Virginia Women’s Basketball’s first performance in the ACC/SEC Challenge against Auburn.  Regrettably, the score was not one of them, as the Hoos fell to the Tigers by nine points, 66-57.    The highs were Kymora Johnson’s double-double, 22 points and 13 rebounds (five of which came in the fourth quarter during Virginia’s furious rally), Yonta Vaughan came off the bench with eight clutch points, along with five assists and two rebounds to also be instrumental in the fourth quarter rally, and the Hoos as a team were much better at the free throw line, with Latasha Lattimore in particular converting five shots from the stripe in the fourth quarter.  Despite being outscored in the previous three quarters, largely by Auburn’s point guard, Deyona Gaston, who led all scorers with 23 points, the Hoos began the fourth on a 12-3 run to bring the game to a three-point affair.  However, time ran out too quickly, and despite great shooting and defense, it was too little too late again for Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton’s squad.  ACC Play will commence on Sunday as the Hoos will look to get back to winning ways against the Boston College Eagles.  You can watch the game on ACCNX or listen to it on Newsradio WINA and here on Cvillerightnow.com, tip-off is at 2:00 PM at John Paul Jones Arena.
