CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The USATF Olympic Trials are underway in Eugene, Oregon is underway at Hayward Field and some of the finest among the Cavalier TFXC team are showing their stuff to qualify for the Track and Field competitions in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

On the 1st day of competition, two Hoos qualified for the semifinals in their respective events.  

Olympic Trial debutante UVA junior Alex Sherman finished fourth in the final heat of the first round of the 400-meter hurdles with a 50.76. That time was slower than his personal best 50.34 at the 2024 ACC Championship. In the 800-meter dash, 2024 NCAA outdoor champion, UVA senior Shane Cohen finished on a 1:46:83.

Both semifinals will take place Friday, Sherman goes first in the 400-meter hurdles at 9:16 ET, and Cohen later at 9:39 ET in the 800-meter.
