Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): The First Day of ACC Championship Competition for the Virginia Track and Field team began with two spectacular podium finishes to put the Hoos in excellent position in the standings.
First up was a silver medal finish for Keyandre Davis after a personal best mark of 67.12m/220-2 in his final attempt in the Men’s Hammer Throw competition. The stellar throw catapulted Davis all the way to #5 all-time in program history, just ahead of last year’s silver medalist Jacob Lemmon. Davis and his teammate John Fay both earned All-ACC Honors for their performances in the competition. Fay finished sixth in the standings.
The second was a gold-medal victory in the Women’s 10,000 Meter Final for Virginia courtesy of Jenny Schilling. Her 33:22.34 finish was eight seconds better than the second-place time. She paced the leaders for the majority of the race and picked her moment perfectly to make her move. It was Schilling’s first podium finish since the Indoor Bronze she earned in the 3,000-meter race at the ACC Championships.
The action continues today and through the weekend beginning today with the Men’s Decathalon.
