Charlottesville, VA (cvilleirightnow.com): Virginia distance-running dynamo Gary Martin was named the ACC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week by the conference following his incredible performance in the men’s mile at the 117th Millrose Games. His momentous mark of 3:48.82 comfortably beats all other marks in UVA history and knocks all but one time in collegiate history off their heights. Martin’s name now sits second all-time in NCAA history in the men’s mile run. These distinctions would be impressive enough, but Martin’s time also cracked the top ten recorded mile times in world history as well. The Wahoo cross-country star now sits eighth on the world all-time list for the mile run. In a season that just keeps getting better, Martin was also recently named the ACC Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year. He has made many fans this year and likely has more excitement up his sleeve before the year is out.
