WIMBLEDON, UK (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Two of the brightest talents UVA Tennis has produced saw their Wimbledon runs come to an end for 2024, after Emma Navarro was beaten in straight sets by Italian Jasmine Paolini, 6-2, 6-1.
World #17 Navarro pulled off a pair of stunning upsets during her run, besting former Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka and world #2 Coco Gauff before her defeat to Paolini. Despite her loss, the 23-year-old will represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics in two weeks.
World #11 Danielle Collins, in what she revealed to be her final season following a surprise retirement announcement after the Australian Open this year, won three matches at the 2024 tournament to reach the round of 16. However, she fell in an upset to Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic. Like Navarro, she also answered the call to international duty and will play for Team USA at the Paris Games.
