Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): There are few actions more satisfying in sports than a comeback win. That is just what the fans in attendance at Palmer Park last night were treated to as the #25 Cavaliers took on the Liberty Flames, a team that had beaten them earlier in the year. The Flames entered play yesterday looking for win #42 in the 2025 season, but despite a strong start against the Hoos, Virginia would ensure that the home team took home the victory that night. Eden Bigham, starting for Virginia, was a little wild in the early innings. The Flames were able to take advantage after a leadoff double in the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead. The Flames nabbed one more run in the next frame, but an MC Eaton homer got the Hoos on the board, beginning the Virginia charge. As Bigham locked down and sharpened up her stuff, Eaton and Kelsey Hackett both reached base in the fourth inning. Kailyn Jones knocked them both home to tie the game at three on a double. With Jones aboard, up came the slugging shortstop Jade Hylton, and when she saw a pitch she liked, a true and strong swing sent the ball careening out of the park. Hylton had given the Hoos a 5-3 lead that they would not surrender, as Bigham completed the game and sealed the win for Virginia. It was an emphatic conclusion to the regular season and will send the Hoos into ACC tournament play next week full of confidence. For now, though, they will tackle final exams.
