CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – PVCC nursing student Mustafa Abdelhamid’s course of study was in danger after a no trespassing order kept him from attending an externship at UVA Health, and WINA News has learned the order has been rescinded. He was among 27 arrested during the May 4th encampment clearing by police, and the order was issued as a result. An open letter posted on social media reads “he will begin in just over a week, and he is both deeply relieved and extremely grateful for the support he has received”.
UVa Professor Laura Goldblatt had been advocating for him, saying he was there May 4 to deliver food and was talking to some fellow PVCC students when he got swept up by police clearing the encampment. Abdelhamid was recently awarded PVCC’s Distinguished Student Award, the school’s highest honor. A petition with 1000 signatures had asked UVA President Jim Ryan and other UVA leaders to lift the order.
