CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UVA President Jim Ryan has agreed to meet with graduate students who’ve had pay delayed for work they’ve done with the University. This after a group of students showed up at this month’s Board of Visitors meeting holding signs such as “UVA paid me late, but my bills can’t wait”.
Provost Ian Baucom recognized them at the end of the March 1 Board of Visitors’ morning meeting saying there was an issue about a year ago with some students unacceptably receiving late payments. He said he recollects it happened one more time involving students last December in one department. Representatives with the United Campus Workers of Virginia say detail is indeed wrong, and are not sure how the provost doesn’t realize it’s happened many more times. Ryan will meet with them April 4.
