The University of Virginia’s Department of Safety and Security Police Division has issued a warning about a recent phone scam targeting the community.

Callers are impersonating university officers, claiming someone they know has been arrested, and demanding money for their release.

UVA Police warned they never solicit money over the phone and says not to engage with these calls.

Victims are advised to report any incidents to the University Police Division. UVA stresses the importance of vigilance and encourages community members to be cautious of evolving scam tactics.
