CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – As the UVA Women’s Soccer Team kicks off their season on Thursday, they will be without one of their standout midfielders. Second-year player Yuna McCormack has been named to the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team for the upcoming U-20 World Cup in Colombia later this month.

In her first season with the Hoos, McCormack contributed to six goals, scoring one and assisting on five others. She also started every game for the Cavaliers in 2023. She joins a USWNT squad that includes eight players her age who are already playing professionally.

The knockout stages begin on August 31st, and if the U.S. team makes it to the final, the tournament will run through September 22nd. McCormack and the U.S. will face defending champions Spain, Morocco, and Paraguay in the group stage. Their first match, against Spain, will take place on September 1st at Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali, with kickoff at 4 p.m. EST.
