Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): For his performance against Virginia Tech last Friday, UVA goalkeeper received a conference accolade for his efforts in helping the Hoos see off their bitter rivals, breaking them out of a bad recent run of form. The fourth year, who transferred from Coastal Carolina two seasons ago, kept the #19 ranked Hokies quiet on the attacking side of the ball, making a season-high 11 saves in 90 minutes. Were it not for a Yonis Kireh effort placed a little far toward his back post, Batrouni would have kept a clean sheet as well. The saves he made were numerous and impressive, with perhaps his finest moment coming in the closing moments of the match, parrying away two near-certain goals by the tips of his fingers. Add to those 11 his three saves against UNCG, and a 14 save week was more than enough to earn him the honor. He shares the distinction with another keeper, Logan Erb of NC State, who recorded 5 saves in his side’s draw with Stanford. Batrouni also kept a clean sheet against an even better attack than Tech yesterday in the JMU Dukes yesterday, who failed to score on the Cavalier Cat, allowing the Hoos to steal a victory in the closing moments and earn their second win against ranked opponents in as many matches.
