CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Twenty-one peer-elected Faculty Senators and Senators-Elect at the UVA School of Medicine have issued a letter they say sets the record straight on accusations from some current and former UVA Health Board members complaints about Craig Kent and Melina Kibbe are money-motivated. The letter to the community dated April 7 says “it would be a disservice to the community not to defend our faculty against a campaign of falsehoods accusing physicians of placing personal profit above the interest of patients”. The letter notes over a four-year period, “serious and pervasive concerns were raised multiple times by multiple physicians” with dismissive responses and even retaliation in some cases. They note the concerns have resulted in the resignation of Dr. Kent and an apology by President Jim Ryan for his initial lack of response, thus the accusations are nothing more than a smear campaign.
