CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The narrative that top UVA brass is surprised, or has in some way handled, complaints against top med school leaders is false. That according to Dr. Stephen Culp, a top area urologist, associate professor of medicine, and UVA Medical Faculty Senate Chair who presented a timeline at the latest UVA Faculty Senate meeting.
The Cavalier Daily reports Dr.Culp said UVA Physicians Group in 2021 emailed a no-confidence note to President Jim Ryan about UVA Health CEO Craig Kent. In 2023, after Melina Kibbe joined the med school as dean, Dr. Culp says four open letters from faculty were presented expressing no confidence in Kent nor Kibbe. This past January, Dr. Culp said there were a series of meetings with University Administration, including Provost Ian Baucum, where faculty outlined stripped titles and denied promotions for those who voiced concerns.
The Faculty Senate is preparing a resolution for an October meeting.
