Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Dr. Michael Keng, a renowned hematologist and oncologist at UVA Health, joined WINA Morning News to discuss the significance of September as National Blood Cancer Awareness Month. He provided an in-depth explanation of blood cancer, its symptoms, and the treatments available.
“Blood cancers are things that affect the production and function of your blood cells. This means that most of these cancers start in your bone marrow, where the blood is actually produced.” Dr. Keng detailed the three main types of blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, and emphasized the importance of early detection.
