CHASKA, MINN. (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UVA golfer Paul Chang’s impressive run at the U.S. Amateur Championships ended yesterday in the round of 32. Last season, Chang advanced to the round of 16, but he fell short of that mark this year.
Chang led Tyler Mawhinney 1Up after the front nine. However, a timely birdie on hole 10 and a par on hole 11, following a Chang bogey, gave Mawhinney the lead for the next six holes. Chang remained close until hole 17, where another bogey allowed his opponent to take a 2Up lead, ending the match.
Fortunately, Chang won’t have to wait long to return to collegiate action, as the Hoos will compete in the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio, on September 9.
