CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia won’t always have a size, strength and skill advantage in every game it plays. But for the first three outings, it has – and it’s made the most of it.

That certainly was the case for Tuesday’s late-night affair against Hampton.

Ugo Onyenso had his first double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, and Chance Mallory added 16 as the Cavaliers rolled 91-53.

“Much more of a complete performance across the board from all of our guys, more importantly, collectively, together,” Odom said.

UVA scored over 80 points in the first three games of a season for the first time since 2006. On this night, the Cavaliers hit that mark with 8:44 to play.

Virginia (3-0) got 13 points from Sam Lewis, 11 from Malik Thomas and 10 from Jacari White.

“Today, you could see it on both ends – offense and defense,” Lewis said. “We meshed really well. We came out with a common well – attack them first.”

How dominant were the Cavaliers, physically, in this matchup? It ended the second half by grabbing 16 consecutive rebounds. That helped UVA end the half on a 12-2 run, going to the locker room up 47-19.

“Everything that I scouted was true. And they showed it tonight,” Hampton coach Ivan Thomas said. “The young men played hard. They played together, they moved the ball. There are very few flaws.

In all, Virginia out-rebounded Hampton 49-25, and blocked nine shots.

It went 11 for 22 from 3-point range, by far its most restrained showing from beyond the arc to date, and its bench outscored the Pirates’ subs 50-35.
