CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies and its Center for Public Safety and Justice have expanded their partnership with the Virginia State Police to enhance professional development and leadership capabilities for law enforcement professionals. As part of this strategic alliance, Virginia State Police officers and command staff will receive unprecedented access to UVA’s advanced educational resources, leadership development programs and research expertise. The collaboration will focus on three key areas: educational opportunities, leadership development and research support.

[CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Apr. 7, 2025] The University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies and its Center for Public Safety and Justice have expanded their partnership with the Virginia State Police to enhance professional development and leadership capabilities for law enforcement professionals. As part of this strategic alliance, Virginia State Police officers and command staff will receive unprecedented access to UVA’s advanced educational resources, leadership development programs and research expertise.
“The furtherance of our partnership with the Virginia State Police represents a significant opportunity to advance public safety across the state of Virginia,” said Marvin Ben Haiman, Executive Director of UVA’s Center for Public Safety and Justice. “We are committed to supporting law enforcement professionals with work that combines education with finely honed operational components.”
The collaboration will focus on three key areas: educational opportunities, leadership development and research support. It will include the following initiatives: · Tailored educational opportunities for VSP leadership and officers
· Custom leadership training programs addressing leadership, crisis communication, other critical skills and professional networking opportunities across public safety disciplines · Research opportunities geared towards the state of Virginia that explore critical public safety challenges like crime trends and community policing effectiveness Furthermore, VSP officers and command staff will be able to leverage the vast gamut of UVA’s educational resources, such as the National Criminal Justice Command College materials, Master of Public Safety Program, workshops and specialized short courses. These programs are designed to support professional growth and offer cutting-edge insights into modern public safety practices.
