Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com):  A difficult-to-swallow six-point defeat is how the season ends for Ron Sanchez and the UVA Men’s Basketball team in Round One of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte.   The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will have the distinction of marching on to try their luck against one of the best teams in the country in the ACC’s #1, the Duke Blue Devils tomorrow at noon.

Though UVA beat Georgia Tech in the regular season at John Paul Jones arena 75-61, the Jackets won a low scoring defensive dogfight 66-60 on Wednesday afternoon over the Hoos.   Isaac McKneely was the team’s leading scorer in the game with a dynamite 27 points and did his fair share of cleaning the glass too with a four-rebound day.  However, the rest of the team was not so productive, shooting 36% from the floor to Georgia Tech’s 45%, and 24 rebounds to the Jackets’ 40.  No one other than McKneely managed to break double figures on the Wahoos’ roster.

Their final record now drops to 15-17, and the program enters a period of uncertainty.  The search for a new head coach, likely having begun in earnest over the last few weeks, will now commence with all-speed.  However, whether or not the program’s permanent head coach is a new or old face, the roster is another matter entirely.  Now, we will have to wait for the outcome of portal season to look ahead to Virginia’s prospects in the new season.
