Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): Currently, there are 43 Cavaliers enshrined in the UVA Baseball Hall of Fame. On Saturday, two more will join the ranks of the Hoos’ finest players, as the 2015 National Championship Team celebrates its 10-year anniversary.
Righthander Andrew Carraway won 20 games in four years on Grounds. Pitching from 2006-09, Carraway was the co-captain of the first Virginia team ever to make the College World Series and earned the program’s first ever victory after two strong relief innings against Cal State Fullerton. He was an academic standout too, named to the ACC-Academic honor roll all four years at UVA, and the all-ACC academic team in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He was drafted in the 12th round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners.
Also earning a spot in the hall is the offensive lynchpin of the 2015 championship team, third-baseman Kenny Towns. He played all 68 games of the 2015 season at the hot-corner and hitting in the cleanup spot for the Hoos. Towns led all CWS players in RBIs in 2015, notching seven in UVA’s title-winning run. His career was defined by playing his best at the right time, playing in a program record 33 NCAA tournament games, and leads all Hoos in tournament starts, hits, doubles, and RBIs in the playoffs. Towns too was drafted into MLB, taken in the 20th round by the Los Angeles Angels in 2015.
The private Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place this Saturday, January 18th.
