CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The University of Virginia had moved on after CCPS was initially awarded the FEI property by the federal government April 29 and were taken off guard by the late Friday notification that the property is now theirs. Charlottesville City Manager Sam Sanders, in a sentiment echoed in a School Board statement later Monday, told WINA Morning News of “deep disappointment” in what the city calls the federal government reneging on its promise. Both UVA and CCPS acknowledge they initially were going to submit a joint application for the property but were told that would not be acceptable.

And, over the weekend, WINA News learned a third institution submitted an application for the property, private school Community Christian Academy. The school’s Executive Director Dr. Kimberly Moore told WINA’s The Schilling Show Monday they’re seeking an explanation from the U.S. Education Secretary that their application was reviewed by her, and if they didn’t meet the qualifications, why.
