CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UVA 2nd-year quarterback Anthony Colandrea, one of only two quarterbacks who would be on scholarship next year, has indicated on social media he plans to enter the transfer portal. He cannot jump right now because the portal does not open until December 9. While he did not specifically mention he would transfer, he has reposted a report from online college sports publication On3 that he intends to enter the portal.
Colandrea broke 1st-year records in his starts last season after Tony Muskett was injured in the season-opener against Tennessee. He was named the starter after training camp in August over graduate transfer Muskett and quarterbacked the Hoos to four wins in the first five games. However, he also quarterbacked the Hoos to five of six losses before Muskett got the start in Saturday night’s 37-17 loss at Virginia Tech.
New Mexico State 3rd-year transfer Gavin Frakes and 3rd-year Grady Brosterhous are the two most-experienced quarterbacks scheduled to carry over to next year, and Elliott says a couple of freshmen are coming, as well.
