CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle County Police have charged two 18-year old Charlottesville men in connection with shots fired in broad daylight October 7 in the 2300 block of Peyton Drive which they say is gang-related. ACPD responded to the call shortly before 4:30 that afternoon and found property damage and at least one bullet lodged in a post of a fence surrounding a playground. An investigation has resulted in attempted malicious wounding and a firearms charge for Jakai J. Mulford, and a conspiracy to commit a felony charge against Rico L. Walker.
ACPD Criminal Investigations Capt. Darrell Byers says these charges are not related to the November 13 search warrant executions, but this is an example Albemarle Police are seriously addressing gun violence crimes and bringing about prosecutions.
