RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – With Virginia gas prices dipping toward the lowest of 2024, Triple-A MidAtlantic predicts a busy Thanksgiving travel holiday starting Tuesday. TripleA’s Morgan Dean says more than 2-million Virginians will travel 50 miles of more over the holiday, which is up slightly over last year and pre-pandemic 2019. He says 92-percent of those Virginia travelers will be on the roads, which is about 1.9-million. This as Virginia’s gas price average heading into the weekend is below $3-a-gallon at 2.98.
Dean says air travel continues to soar in 2024 with all of the TSA’s top-10 service days being in the past year. 132,000 Virginians are expected to fly this Thanksgiving holiday… 1000 more people than last year and up 6% from pre-pandemic 2019. For the first time, the counting period includes the Tuesday before and the Monday after Thanksgiving “to better capture the flow of holiday travelers.
