CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Toy Lift founder Tom Powell is putting out an appeal for trucks to collect and deliver donations to western North Carolina. Powell says they’re going to be at Sam’s Club as long as they can continue to get the trucks needed. However, resolution of the port strike, which good news, has created a need. Powell says the place where they were getting the tractor trailers needs to make their contracted runs in association with the Port of Virginia and other entities. That means taking the rigs from the volunteer efforts and using for the work that is their bread and butter.
Powell is asking anyone who can arrange tractor trailers to help in Helene relief efforts to contact him. It is a resource and time commitment to leave the trailer at Sam’s Club, and to drive the load down to Hendersonville, NC, and back likely the next day. He says some may be tempted to do it all in one day, but it’s not something he’d recommend. To help, email him at “tom@toylift.org”, private message him on Facebook, or come by Sam’s Club and he’ll “be the old guy sitting in the chair”.
