Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Toy Lift Foundation is preparing for its 35th annual toy drive on December 6th, a cherished event that has become a cornerstone of the Charlottesville community. President Dave Fafara joined Morning News to discuss the event. “This year, over 3,500 children, over 1,700 families, that’s our goal.” The drive unites volunteers, donors, and local businesses in a shared mission to ensure every child in need wakes up to a magical Christmas morning.
The initiative, known as Toy Lift Friday, inspires the community to contribute toys, time, or funds to bring the holiday spirit to local families. Donations can be dropped off at Fashion Square Mall, with additional satellite locations available. “The magic really happens the following weekend when we do all the shopping for kids… and what they’re doing is they’re getting the presents and the gifts for the kids, knowing that on Christmas morning, when they wake up, the kids that they shopped for are waking up and smiling, and that’s where the magic happens,” Fafara shared.
Monetary donations are especially encouraged to help fulfill children’s wish lists after the event. “One year, we had a kid ask for a piano, and we found one,” Fafara said, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to creating unforgettable holidays.
