CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch for Augusta County, Rockingham County, and surrounding areas in western and northwestern Virginia. The watch is in effect from 12:53 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.

Cities included in the watch area are Staunton, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg, and Winchester. In addition to Augusta and Rockingham, the watch covers Highland, Clarke, Frederick, Page, Shenandoah, and Warren counties.

Forecasters say conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes. Residents should closely monitor weather alerts and be ready to take shelter if a warning is issued.
