CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Tony Bennett, who coached the University of Virginia to the 2019 national championship, then shocked the college basketball world by retiring in October 2024, will make a public appearance on Halloween night at the grand opening of Dick’s House of Sports at Fifth Street Station.
Bennett will be on hand from 6-7:30 p.m., leading off a trio of UVA sports stars scheduled to appear at the event through the weekend. Former Cavaliers and NFL tight end Heath Miller, the current football coach St. Anne’s-Belfield, will be at the store on Saturday from noon-1:30 p.m.
Former UVA and NFL defensive lineman Chris Long will be at Dick’s on Sunday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Long was a Cavalier from 2004-2007. He was the second overall pick in the 2008 draft, selected by the St. Louis Rams. Long played 11 pro seasons, the first eight with the Rams, then one for New England and two with Philadelphia. He also was a member of two Super Bowl championship teams.
Bennett coached the Cavaliers from 2009-2024, going 364-136. He led UVA to 10 NCAA tournaments, two ACC tournament championships, and six conference regular-season crowns. He earned ACC coach of the year honors four times.
Miller played at Virginia from 2001-2004 before being selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played 11 seasons for the team, winning two Super Bowls.
