Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Tomorrow’s game against Georgia Tech will be a momentous occasion for the University of Virginia basketball program, as the Cavaliers honor former head coach Tony Bennett. The halftime ceremony will pay tribute to Bennett’s legacy, recognizing his pivotal role in restoring Virginia basketball to national prominence. “Tony Bennett is the person who brought Virginia basketball back to prominence… I don’t think anybody doubts this program will reach elite status again,” said John Freeman, voice of the Cavaliers.

While the tribute to Bennett takes center stage, the Cavaliers will also be focused on securing a crucial win against Georgia Tech. They come into the game fresh off victories against top ACC opponents Louisville and Clemson, making this matchup particularly challenging. “Georgia Tech’s pretty darn good,” Freeman acknowledged, discussing the challenge ahead.

Freeman also emphasized the emotional significance of the day, with Virginia’s success under Bennett still resonating with the team and alumni. “This is about the Virginia basketball community. It’s alumni weekend, so it’s much bigger than just the players on the roster,” Freeman explained.
