CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Last night (Tuesday, July 2, 2024) the Harrisonburg Turks were riding high after a demonstrative victory at home over the Southern Division leading Charlottesville Tom Sox. The Tom Sox entered play on July 2nd knowing what they needed to do differently and looked to execute a reversal of fortunes in game 2 to hold the Turks’ division advance in the 2024 Valley League Baseball season. 2 innings into the game, it was looking like more of the same for the home team, with pitcher David Davilla taking the mound in the third with a 5-2 over his opponent, Tom Sox starter Palmer O’Beirne.

However, Charlottesville right fielder Jake Books took matters into his own hands. With Robbie Lavey and Caden Ferraro on base for the Sox, Books knocked them both in to cut the lead to in the top of the 3rd. The Coastal Carolina outfielder, two innings later, would turn the game on its head with a game tying double in the 5th. Second baseman Ryan Winn and left fielder Dean Mihos followed Books with a pair of rbi singles to give the Tom Sox a 7-5 lead in the 5th. Third baseman Cooper Blauser added another run on a sacrifice fly in the 6th and clever baserunning in the 9th put a button a 5-inning shutout relief outing by Bobby Olsen to seal a 9-7 victory.

The Tom Sox hold their division lead by 2 games in the Valley League south and will head to Covington to take on the Lumberjacks at Casey Field.
