Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): In advance of the 2025 season beginning May 31st, the Valley Baseball League champion Charlottesville Tom Sox have partnered with the Master of Science in Athletic Training program at the University of Virginia to make the summer safer at CHO Airport Field!  Students in the MSAT program have, over the course of the fall semester of 2024 and into the new year, created three emergency action plans that will be implemented to begin the new season, the first for a lightning strike, the second a collision/spinal injury, and a non-concussion head injury.

On Saturday, March 22nd, the new Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) were demonstrated in detail to assembled fans, board members, team dignitaries, and even representatives from other teams, with assistance from local EMS and trainers from ACAC.   Program instructors and participating first responders answered audience questions and explained that the EAPs will be posted around CHO Airport Field when the season begins.  They also outlined the necessary additions that will be made to safety measures available at the facility already, such as moving AEDs closer to the dugout in the event of an emergency.

Student Szahria Jones said she and cohort began training in emergency medical care over the summer before commencing preparation of the EAPs in the fall and mentioned that Saturday’s run through was not the final run through of their plans.  They will do a similar demonstration of these scenarios as the final for their class at the end of the semester in advance of the season.

The TomSox title defense of the Valley League Championship will begin on May 31st, and the entirety of the season will be covered in detail right here on CvilleRightNow.com.
