Tom Campbell passed in Charlottesville, Virginia, with his children and loved ones at his side. Tom passed away at the University of Virginia Medical Center on January 23, 2024.
Born Thomas Harry Campbell to the late Helen Jean and Harry Edward Campbell, he was predeceased by his wife, Jude. They were married 50 years.
Tom is survived by sons, Col (Ret) Thomas H Campbell III, USMC (Connie) of Suffolk, Virginia; LtCol Patrick Campbell USMCR (Kristine) of Charlottesville, Virginia; daughter Ciara Campbell of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren Brendan, Sean, Ryan, Charlotte, Thomas, Katie, and Georgie; and sisters Eileen and Mary Lou.
Tom was born in Hackensack, NJ and raised on Long Island, NY, in the Fiddlers Green area of Huntington. He attended Xavier High School in New York City and was a proud member of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service class of 1968.
Tom was a retired Marine Corps fighter pilot of 20 years and an airline pilot for 25 years. In Charlottesville, he was an active member of the Incarnation Catholic community, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Marine Corps League.
While a Marine Corps pilot Tom met Jude on July 3, 1970. They were married at the old Mission San Luis Rey, California, on January 5, 1971.
After living in Beaufort, South Carolina, and Beeville, Texas, the family was transferred to Santa Ana, California. Tom began his commercial flying career there. They moved to Charlottesville in 1994.
Tom revered Jude, adored Ciara and was enormously proud of Patrick and Tom. He loved his sisters deeply and cherished an abundance of long-lasting and rich friendships – many of which date back to his early childhood. Tom made every friend feel as though they were his most dear.
