Ted Kuzen died peacefully at home on November 26, 2024. He was 76 and had battled dementia for several years.

Born in New York City, Ted received his BA from Columbia College (1970), MS from Columbia University School of Library Science (1984), and MA in History from New York University (1984). He earned an Advanced Certificate in Preservation Administration and was a Mellon Intern at Yale University. In 1987, he became Preservation Librarian for the University of Virginia for a 10-year term.

Ted was a voracious reader and loved all kinds of music, especially opera and French classical music. He played guitar, gardened, and shared a love of baseball with his wife. He was an expert saber fencer at Tenafly (NJ) High School and at Columbia University. He often said World War I was his alternate universe, and his memory for history was astounding. He was kind, spirited, and a true husband and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Robin Holloway Kuzen of Charlottesville, VA, and his sister, Carol Kuzen Black (Robert Black) of Tenafly, NJ. Heartfelt thanks to his caregiver, Tosya Kugler.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, 201 E. Market Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, where Ted volunteered as a shelf reader after he retired.
