CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The UVA Children’s Hospital is the number one pediatric hospital in the state of Virginia and serves families from 48 states as well as Washington D.C. and for the 10th year, the Charlottesville Media Group is dedicating two days of programming to support the efforts of the hospital. The Charlottesville Media Group is utilizing the reach of its six stations, 92.7 Cville Country, Z95.1, 97.5 3WV, 106.1 The Corner, Fox Sports 102.9 and of course WINA to highlight the compelling stories of families who have been impacted through the work of the UVA Children’s Hospital. During the radiothon you will hear compelling stories of triumph from families as well as doctors and other supportive staff on the lifesaving work that happens every day at UVA Children’s.
Every bed at UVA Children’s stays full year-round. In 2022, 109,000 patients made over 430,000 total visits to the hospital and in 2023 there were over 53,000 visits to the pediatric Emergency Department. In 2024 UVA Children’s admitted 739 patients to the pediatric intensive care unit and 837 babies to the neonatal intensive care unit who stayed an average of 24 days. Finally, among the many statistics that point to the importance of care, over 60% of the families served need financial assistance.
