CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – During the five months of long nights getting his new restaurant ready to open, Augusto Rodriguez Araoz said he had a realization that led to the name of the new establishment.

“The final conclusion … was that we are our own enemy,” Rodriguez Araoz told Cville Right Now.

Araoz, who co-founded Cumbre Bakery, opened The Enemy last month in York Place on the Downtown Mall. The fine-dining restaurant focuses on a short and seasonal menu with European influence and a touch of Argentinean cuisine.

Araoz immigrated from Argentina to the United States, first working as a dishwasher in Miami. But he was driven by a dream of becoming an entrepreneur. After moving to Charlottesville and opening Cumbre Coffee & Bakery with partner Juan Pablo, Araoz sold Cumbre in October 2025. And after five years of dreaming, he had the opportunity to open his own place – The Enemy.

“This is our challenge, our fight. Improve ourselves every day, putting more energy, passion and love into the things we do,” he said.

The Enemy aims to focus on excellent hospitality and be the spot to celebrate moments, while enjoying thoughtfully crafted dishes. The ossobuco is cooked until tender, paired with mashed potatoes and a Malbec reduction, a nod to a very popular grape in Argentina. Fans of Cumbre’s empanadas will see the familiar stuffed pastries elegantly served as a trio of beef, chicken, and caprese.

The Enemy is located at 112 West Main St, Suite 6 in Charlottesville. Reservations are available through Resy and are open Tuesday through Saturday from 5-9 p.m.
