CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW/THE CAVALIER DAILY) – “In recent years, the University has become more accessible and equitable than ever, but it has still grappled with contextualizing and counteracting the lingering effects of its oppressive history.”
“This effort suffered a setback last Friday, when the Board of Visitors decided that the University must dissolve its Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Partnerships.”
With that, the editorial board at The Cavalier Daily writes in a Monday morning editorial they “condemn” the Board of Visitors’ decision. The Board of Visitors’ decision came after a President Trump Executive Order threatening the pulling of federal funds to universities — private and public — that did not dissolve DEI offices and initiatives.
Cav Daily editors, in the editorial you can read in its entirety by clicking here, accuses the Visitors of placing “politics over academic values, tangibly harming the University community”.
