CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Nasir Floyd McGhee was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the death of a customer at the Sunshine Minimart on Cherry Avenue on Thursday.

The Albemarle County man was originally charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the shooting death of Justice Kilel, but pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in March; those charges were reduced as part of his plea deal.

“While Mr. McGhee was not the individual who ultimately possessed a firearm or fired the lethal shots,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Joe Platania. “His participation in this violent attack warranted a conviction and a significant prison sentence that reflected the severity of the choices he made.”

Kilel was in the minimart on March 4, 2023, when McGhee and Orlando Allen came in and assaulted the 20-year-old Gordonsville resident and Fork Union graduate. It was during the assault that Kilel was shot and killed. Allen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in February. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 23.
