CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory and Special Weather Statement for Charlottesville and much of Central Virginia, warning of strong south winds and gusts up to 50 miles per hour through 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Wind Advisory, issued at 12:59 p.m., includes Albemarle, Nelson, Greene, Madison, Rappahannock, and Culpeper counties, as well as surrounding areas across Virginia, Maryland, D.C., and eastern West Virginia. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with isolated gusts reaching 45 to 50 mph. Tree limbs may be blown down, and scattered power outages are possible.
Earlier, at 12:14 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement highlighting localized bursts of strong wind, particularly in communities such as Stanardsville, Gordonsville, and Warrenton. Winds are expected to be strongest from the south and southeast.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use caution, and residents should secure loose outdoor items.
