PALMYRA, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE: The NTSB is asking for help with recovery of an engine, propeller, and other airframe parts that separated from this aircraft. The plane was flying north to south on a route near Miles Jackson Road when parts started to separate from the plane.
ORIGINAL: State Police say two northern Virginia men were killed in the early Sunday morning plane crash in Fluvanna County just east of Palmyra. Residents just before 9am reported seeing a low-flying aircraft, then what sounded like an explosion. 63-year old John Latham of Haymarket, the pilot, and 73-year old passenger, Niiben C.A. Ayivorh of Burke were killed in the crash of a 1975 Rockwell Aero Commander 690A. They had taken off from Manassas and were headed toward Georgetown, SC… which is right outside Charleston.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
