CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Campaign finance disclosures filed with the state after 2025’s 2nd-quarter ending June 30 show big leads for Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and Jason Miyares in fundraising activity. Spanberger and Hashmi are two Democrats with leads, with Republican Miyares splitting the fundraising ticket. Republican Winsome Earle-Sears is the incumbent Lt. Governor seeking a promotion to Governor’s office, but trails significantly Democrat Abigail Spanberger, who did not run for reelection in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District so she could run for Governor. However, Jason Miyares is the incumbent state Attorney General, and he has a big fundraising advantage seeking reelection to the same office.

The numbers show Democratic candidate for Governor Abigail Spanberger raising twice as much money than Republican nominee Winsome Earle-Sears with more than three times the cash on-hand. In papers filed July 15, Spanberger showed $20,560,047 raised with $15,225,448 cash on-hand. The campaign boasts raising $10.7 million in April, May, and June alone, the highest amount ever raised by a statewide candidate in Virginia in the 2nd-quarter of an election year.

Earle-Sears shows $11,591,853 raised with $4,554,273 cash on-hand. Her campaign touts nearly $6 million raised in April, May, and June which sets a 2nd-quarter election year fundraising record for a Republican candidate for Governor of Virginia. An Earle-Sears release states, “This marks the second consecutive quarter where Earle-Sears has set a new fundraising high for Virginia Republicans.”

Down-ticket, Democrat Ghazala Hashmi has an even larger fundraising advantage over Republican candidate John Reid in the Lt. Governor’s race. Hashmi has raised $3,474,004 with $1,278,085 cash on-hand to Reid’s $440,809 and $163,082 respectively. Hashmi’s campaign claims her $2.4 million raised in April, May, and June is more than twice the highest amount previously raised by a Virginia Lt. Governor candidate in an election year Q2.

Reid told Cville Right Now that he focused on meeting prospective voters at the expense of fundraising early on.

“I made a decision that I was gonna quit my radio job so that I would be able to work full-time as a candidate who listens to people and not just to be in meetings with rich people in Richmond or in Washington all the time,” Reid said. “And that’s reflected in the amount of money I brought in. I suppose I’m on the poor kid on the block, but you know financially and I’ve got to fix that.”

The Attorney General’s race is where the Republican holds a decided fundraising lead over the Democrats’ candidate. Incumbent Republican Jason Miyares has raised almost twice as much as Democratic challenger Jay Jones. Miyares reports $9,367,267 raised with $6,950,752 cash on-hand. Jones has raised $4,898,568 with $1,238,825 cash on-hand. Miyares reports $4.7 million raised over a 30-day recent period. Jones has not released a statement on his Q2 financial numbers.
