CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Snowfall across much of Virginia on Wednesday, Feb. 19, has led to hundreds of crashes. That’s according to Virginia State Police, who are asking to residents to avoid travel where possible.
From midnight to 9 p.m. Wednesday, state police responded to 455 crashes statewide, with 42 of those crashes resulting in reported injuries. In the Appomattox Division—which covers Staunton, Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and South Boston—94 crashes have been reported, including 13 with injuries.
A series of crashes along southbound I-85 from mile marker 19 to the North Carolina border temporarily shut down the interstate earlier in the day. The roadway was reopened around 4 p.m., and no serious injuries were reported in those incidents. Despite the conditions, there have been no fatal crashes in this storm as of 9 p.m.
