It hasn’t been exactly a secret since 29News reported in November 2023 Tesla was searching for a location in the Charlottesville area. Early in 2024, Albemarle County’s Board of Supervisors approved a special use permit at Stonefield allowing display and outdoor sales. In December, Charlottesville Community Connection’s Sean Tubbs reported the Albemarle Community Development Department approved a zoning clearance specifically for a Tesla showroom at 1951 Swanson Drive (click here to see that report).
