RONT ROYAL, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — Shenandoah National Park has issued temporary trail and area closures due to hazardous conditions from the recent storm that impacted the entire region. The storm system produced several inches of rainfall causing flash flooding of stream systems. The rushing water left large sections of trails washed out, and stream systems continue to flood causing hazardous conditions. Over the next several days, meanwhile, the forecast calls for additional rainfall.

The following trails and areas are temporarily closed until further notice:

Limberlost Trail (mile 43)
Skyland Horse Trail (mile 49.4)
North Fork Moormans River Trail (boundary access from Sugar Hollow Road)
South Fork Moormans River Trail (boundary access from Sugar Hollow Road)
The Appalachian Connector Trail near Hawksbill Gap parking area (mile 45.5)
Dark Hollow Falls Trail (mile 50.7)
Whiteoak Canyon Trail (mile 42.6 on Skyline Drive and boundary access from Route 600)

Officials say that at this time, not all trails have been assessed, and visitors should expect potential high water or trail damage in other areas of the park.
