CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)UPDATE: The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the City of Charlottesville and east central Albemarle County on Wednesday, July 30, 2024. The warning was in effect until 5:30 PM EDT.

At 4:48 PM EDT:  A severe thunderstorm was located over Charlottesville, moving east at 15 mph.

Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

Impact: Damaging winds caused some trees and large branches to fall, posing a risk of injury to those outdoors and potential damage to homes and vehicles. Roadways were at risk of being blocked by downed trees, with localized power outages possible. Unsecured light objects could have become projectiles.

Locations impacted included: Charlottesville, Campbell, Westmoreland, Hollymead, Cobham, Cismont, Newcomb Hall, Boyd Tavern, Keswick, Monticello, Flordon, Carrsbrook, Shadwell, Barracks, Overton, and Scott Stadium.

Residents were advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
